Tho Ernst Cassirer’s Language and Myth. Susanne K. Langer . Twenty-two years ago [1923], Ernst Cassirer pub-lished the first volume of a work which struck a new note in so-called “theory of knowledge.” Cassirer begins his book (Part I), as I noted above, with consideration of myth, its origins and functions. This section is more or less an abbreviated recapitulation of his work that I cited above, Language and Myth, but not less valuable (and perhaps more valuable) because of its brevity.
